LSU safety Eric Reid stops Alabama running back Trent Richardson during the first matchup between the teams.Alabama running back Trent Richardson said the Crimson Tide's upcoming battle with LSU for the BCS National Championship will be a "slugfest."
He pointed out some of the things the John Chavis-led defense does well.
"Everything they do is for real," Richardson said. "Their fronts are fast. Their linebackers aren't scared to come up. Their safeties are going to come up and make tackles."
Richardson is the one and only player who had success against the Tigers on Nov. 5.
He gained 170 total yards in the game, but didn't find the end zone, which is very rare for a guy that has reached pay dirt 23 times.
It's just a testament to a defense that's given up only 13 touchdowns the entire season.
Richardson put special emphasis on one particular player in the LSU secondary, but it wasn't his fellow Heisman nominee Tyrann Mathieu.
"They have one of the best and one of the biggest safeties I've seen in a long time," Richardson added.
He was referring to LSU sophomore safety Eric Reid, who had a huge interception in the first meeting between the teams.
LSU and Alabama go at it for round two on Jan. 9 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
