PONCHATOULA, LA (WAFB) -
A man
authorities said led them on a chase and even tried to run over some units was
taken into custody after the car was stopped by spike strips Thursday morning.
The
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reported Murray Jackson, 50, of Hammond fled
after allegedly stealing from a store in Ponchatoula.
Deputies
responded to a call from the Ponchatoula Police Department a little after 8
a.m. for assistance in catching a shoplifting suspect.
They said the
suspect tried to run over police units and headed south on I-55. The TPSO took
over the pursuit near the Manchac exit.
Officials
said the St. John Parish Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police laid out
spike strips to end the chase on I-55 at I-10.
Authorities
reported Jackson resisted arrest and was sprayed with mace.
He was
arrested and taken to the St. John Parish Prison. He will be booked as a
fugitive from Tangipahoa Parish.
Investigators
said Jackson will eventually be taken to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail and booked
on several outstanding warrants from the TPSO and Hammond Police Department.
They also
identified him as a fugitive from the Ponchatoula Police Department.
Additional
charges could be filed.
Jackson is
accused of stealing from a Dollar General Store.
