BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The mother of a 14-year-old raped in a local high school auditorium is speaking only to 9 News about what happened this week to her daughter. Authorities say it happened Thursday afternoon at Tara High School.
The Baton Rouge mother, who we are not identifying, says she'll never forget what happened Thursday afternoon.
"It's real emotional. It's real hard to deal with knowing that something has happened to my baby and I wasn't there to protect her and I couldn't help her when she needed me," the woman said.
The woman says her daughter is mentally handicapped and was lured in the auditorium by Quinton Adams, 18, another Tara student. Adams was arrested and charged with rape.
Authorities say the rape happened behind curtains in the auditorium. "He needs to stay in jail. I don't think he needs to be around any children. I think he shouldn't have been at school," she said.
Adam's bond is set at $25,000, but he is still in jail and cannot bond out, because he has a hold from juvenile court. That hold is from another rape charge in 2010.
A spokesman for the East Baton Rouge Parish school system says the district is conducting interviews as part of internal investigation.
